Olive Delicatessen and Café has been described by Georgina Campbell's Ireland as a "charming specialist food shop and café with keen knowledgeable staff" and by John Mc Kennas's Bridgestone guide as a "cult shop".
Olive is situated in the heart of Skerries and the pretty outdoor terrace is a perfect place to relax and watch the world go by.
In the delicatessen, high quality Italian and Irish food produce adorn the wooden shelves... everything from olive oils to Irish chutneys and jams. Muffins, scones and fresh artisan breads are piled high while marinated olives, cheeses, Italian meats and Irish sausages, anti-pasto, handmade chocolates, fresh hummus, pesto and tapenades cram the fridges.
Feeling hungry yet?
A trip to Olive certainly does whet the appetite as they almost always have samples on the tasting table as you enter the deli.
Olive has a cult following when it comes to it's Italian coffee which is extremely rich and smooth. They put a double shot in all regular size coffees. If however, you are attempting to reduce your caffeine intake, they have a lovely range of fresh fruit smoothies also.
The food in Olive café offers exceptional value for money. Sample the wonderful cheeses and meats from the deli on grilled ciabatta bread, or for something lighter a parmesan and rocket salad or a bowl of homemade soup. French onion with comte cheese croutons or Spanish broth with chorizo and spinach are firm favourites.
If you like your cheese, try the selection of seven cheeses from mild to strong served with caramelised onion chutney and crackers. Perfect with a glass (or bottle!) of wine to while the afternoon away!
